In Madagascar: 118,000 newborns are born too early each year. 5,400 children under five die from complications directly related to premature birth. The neonatal mortality rate in Madagascar was 24‰ live births according to the EDSMD IV (Madagascar Demographic and Health Survey) of 2008-2009. This rate rose to 26‰ live births according to the EDSMD V of 2021. The main cause of neonatal mortality representing 38% of causes is prematurity.

  • reduce the risks of immediate and late complications related to prematurity
  • reduce the burden on parents related to prematurity
